Equipment Overview
Wood Pulp Board Cotton Pulp Board Block & Roll Form Explosion-Proof Motors 20+ Reference Plants CMC / PAC Production EPC or Equipment-Only Supply

This pulp board pre-crushing machine is a core piece of pre-processing equipment developed specifically for the cellulose ether industry. It can handle both wood pulp board and cotton pulp board in block or roll form, crushing them into uniformly sized small particles that serve as high-quality feed material for the downstream cellulose pulverizer.

By pre-crushing pulp board before it enters the pulverizer, the machine significantly reduces the operating load of the main pulverizer motor, increases total line throughput, and lowers energy consumption per tonne of CMC or PAC produced. The machine has been deployed in more than 20 cellulose production enterprises across China spanning a wide range of CMC, PAC, and cellulose ether production capacities.

Applicable Raw Materials Block & Roll Form
Wood Pulp Board Softwood & hardwood kraft pulp · Block or roll
Crushes softwood and hardwood bleached kraft pulp boards — the standard raw material for wood pulp-based CMC and PAC production lines. Handles both flat board (block) form and roll form without reconfiguration. Uniform particle output reduces channelling risk in downstream alkalization kneaders.
Cotton Pulp Board Refined cotton linter pulp · Block or roll
Also suitable for pre-crushing cotton linter pulp boards used in cotton-based CMC and PAC lines. This makes the machine a versatile single-unit solution for plants that process both wood pulp and cotton pulp, or that switch between feedstocks depending on availability and grade requirements.

Do not feed non-pulp materials (metal, stone, plastic, etc.) into the machine — this will damage the hammer blades and may cause a safety incident.

Key Features Design Highlights
  • High-power explosion-proof main motor (55 kW): The main drive motor carries a dust explosion-proof rating of ExtDⅢBT130°C, making it suitable for the cellulose dust environments inherent to pulp board crushing operations. The 55 kW rating gives the machine the torque margin to handle dense pulp boards without stalling.
  • Controlled feed rate via dedicated feed roller motor (0.75 kW): A separate explosion-proof feed roller motor provides independent, metered feeding into the crushing chamber, preventing overload conditions and ensuring consistent particle size distribution in the crushed output.
  • Validated through 100+ multidimensional tests: Development involved more than one hundred tests covering adaptability to different pulp board types (wood pulp, cotton pulp, block, roll), long-term continuous operation stability, and behaviour under extreme operating conditions — achieving optimal balance of operational safety, running stability, and component service life.
  • Dual feedstock capability: Unlike single-material crushers, this machine handles both wood pulp board and cotton pulp board without mechanical modification, offering greater flexibility for plants that source cellulose from multiple suppliers or alternate between feedstock types.
  • Flexible supply and installation: Available as a standalone machine, as part of a partial equipment package (pre-processing section), or as the first stage of a full turnkey EPC CMC/PAC production line. ZHAOYUAN provides customised layout integration to ensure compatibility with existing production configurations.

Startup & Shutdown Sequence Required Order

Both startup and shutdown sequences must be strictly observed. Starting or stopping equipment out of order risks blockages, dust accumulation, motor overload, and dust explosion incidents.

Startup Sequence
  1. Check all connections are secure, lubrication grease is sufficient, and dust collection pipelines are unobstructed.
  2. Start the pulse dust removal system. Wait until air pressure stabilises at >= 0.4 MPa.
  3. Start Fan (conveying fan).
  4. Start the Main Machine (pulp board pre-crusher).
  5. Start the feeding conveyor to begin material feeding. Initial feed rate: 50% of designed capacity.
Shutdown Sequence
  1. Stop the feeding conveyor first.
  2. Wait until all material inside the machine has been fully discharged.
  3. Stop the Main Machine.
  4. Stop the Fan.
  5. Stop the pulse dust collection system.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a pulp board pre-crushing machine used for in CMC production?

In a CMC or PAC production line based on wood pulp board or cotton pulp board, the pre-crushing machine performs the first stage of raw material processing. It breaks down dense, compressed pulp board — in either block or roll form — into small, uniform particles before they enter the cellulose pulverizer. This pre-crushing step reduces the load on the downstream pulverizer, improves throughput, and lowers energy consumption per tonne of cellulose ether produced.

Can this machine process both wood pulp board and cotton pulp board?

Yes. This pre-crushing machine is designed to handle both wood pulp board (softwood or hardwood kraft pulp) and cotton pulp board (refined cotton linter pulp) without mechanical reconfiguration. It can also process both block-form and roll-form pulp board, making it suitable for plants that use multiple feedstock types or that switch between wood pulp and cotton pulp depending on grade requirements and market availability.

Why does a pulp board crusher need an explosion-proof motor rating?

During high-speed mechanical crushing of cellulose pulp boards, fine fibrous dust is generated that can form explosive atmospheres. Cellulose dust falls within Group III dust classification under IEC/GB explosion protection standards. All motors on this machine carry an ExtDⅢBT130°C dust explosion-proof rating, which is mandatory for this application and ensures that motor surface temperatures cannot reach the ignition threshold of cellulose dust.

What is the difference between a pulp board pre-crusher and a cellulose pulverizer?

A pulp board pre-crusher (this machine) handles the coarse size-reduction stage — breaking dense pulp boards (typically 5–20 mm thick) into centimetre-scale particles. A cellulose pulverizer (e.g. a hammer mill) then performs fine grinding to produce the micron-scale cellulose powder required for the alkalization reaction in the kneader. The two machines operate in series: pre-crusher output feeds directly into the pulverizer via pneumatic conveying.

Can ZHAOYUAN supply this as part of a turnkey CMC or PAC plant?

Yes. ZHAOYUAN offers the pulp board pre-crushing machine as a standalone item, as part of a pre-processing package, or as the first stage of a complete EPC CMC or PAC production line. For EPC projects, ZHAOYUAN provides engineering design, equipment supply (including pulverizer, kneader, dryer, centrifuge, and sieving), installation supervision, and commissioning support. Custom layout designs are available to integrate the machine into existing plant configurations.

How often do the hammer blades need to be replaced?

Hammer blade replacement frequency depends on the hardness and throughput rate of the pulp board being processed. Blades should be inspected regularly during routine maintenance. When replacing hammer blades, always replace the full set simultaneously to maintain rotor balance and prevent vibration damage to bearings. The main shaft bearing (model 2316) should be re-greased with HP-R grease every 20 operating days or 200 cumulative operating hours.
