Blending & Sieving

After drying, CMC and PAC typically exit the dryer as irregular lumps or agglomerates that do not meet the particle size specification required for the final product. The hammer mill reduces this material to a uniform fine powder, with particle size controlled by the screen mesh installed in the mill.

The crushed powder is then conveyed to the blending and sieving stage, where it is homogenized across batches and any oversize particles are removed before packaging. The hammer mill is typically installed in-line immediately after the dryer outlet.

Key Design Features

  • Stainless steel product-contact surfaces — inner housing, rotor, hammers, and screens fabricated in stainless steel to prevent contamination of food-grade, pharmaceutical-grade, and high-purity industrial CMC/PAC products.
  • Replaceable screen configuration — particle size is controlled by interchangeable screens with different mesh sizes. Screens can be changed to adjust output fineness without major equipment modification, supporting production of multiple product grades on one line.
  • Explosion-proof motor and electrical — explosion-proof rated drive motor and electrical components for safe operation in dusty environments where fine CMC/PAC powder creates potential ignition risk.
  • Integrated dust collection — compatible with bag filter or cyclone dust collection systems to capture fine powder generated during milling, improving yield and maintaining safe working environment.
  • High throughput capacity — high-speed rotor with multiple hammer rows delivers efficient size reduction at production-scale throughput rates. Capacity matched to dryer output to avoid bottlenecks.
  • Easy maintenance — quick-open housing for hammer and screen inspection and replacement. Hammers are reversible and replaceable without special tooling.

Applications

CMC Powder Production Size reduction of dried CMC to meet 40–120 mesh specifications for industrial, food, oilfield, paper, and ceramic grades. Screen selection depends on target product grade.
PAC Powder Production Crushing dried PAC to 80–100 mesh as required by API 13A specification for oilfield drilling fluid applications.
HPMC Production Applicable in hydroxypropyl methylcellulose production lines for post-drying size reduction to required mesh specification.
Other Cellulose Derivatives Suitable for size reduction of other dried cellulose ether products where controlled particle size is required for the final product specification.
